Imagine spending your entire life drilling a mine, only to find that you're drilling deeper and deeper into a mine shaft filled with poison gas. It would seem like you only have two choices:
A. Stop drilling. Let it go, and start fresh with another mine.
B. Drill to your death; after all, it's your life's work.
The first choice seems like a wise one doesn't it? Though what if you're too stubborn to start all over again; to abandon your life's work; to find a new purpose?
Then it would seem that your only alternative is to find a loophole in the system - to have a change in perspective.
1. First, you change the objectives of mining - it's no longer to discover stones or metals. Think of it now as something you enjoy doing, irrespective of end results. Make yourself love the drilling in itself.
2. Then, you drill to your death while remaining happy.
Now there, the second choice doesn't seem too depressing and unwise does it?
Though the only predicament is that 'tis not easy to change one's perspective in life.
